Hardin-Simmons, Texas-Tyler Advance To ASC Final

ABILENE, Texas  — Hardin-Simmons and Texas-Tyler advanced to the American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Championship on Friday afternoon at the HSU Soccer Complex.

Hardin-Simmons defeated old-rival Texas-Dallas 2-0. It was the 10th time the two teams had met in the ASC Tournament and eight of those had been in the ASC final. HSU had either won outright or on penalty kicks nine of those meetings.

Kati McCarty gave the Cowgirls an early lead with a goal 14:07 into the game off an assist from Devon Howard. It was McCarty's sixth goal.  

In the 70th minute HSU got an insurance goal from a likely source. Katie Kuykendall served a corner to Courtney Cramer, who buried it for her 14th goal of the season.

HSU outshot the Comets 14-7 in the match. Brittany Best had one save in one half of action in goal for UTD. Macaire Ament had three saves in her action. Lexi Stinson had four saves in the shutout for HSU.

The Cowgirls are now 16-0-1 and UTD finished with a record of 11-5-2. HSU will play Texas-Tyler at 1 p.m. on Sunday for the title. HSU has won nine straight ASC titles and 14 overall.

In the second semifinal, Mississippi College led 1-0 after a Hillary Fowler goal in the 38th minute off of a deflection. It remained that way until 86:26 when the Patriots were fouled in the box resulting in a penalty kick. Megan Stewart made it to tie the game.

Neither team scored in overtime and the game went to penalty kicks and UTT won 4-2 in the penalty kicks.

Mississippi College outshot the Patriots 27-17 in the game. Bethany Roberson had five saves in goal for MC and Macy Hurley had six saves for the Patriots. 

UTT is now 14-4-1 on the year and MC is 14-3-3.
