Dominating Road Win Pushes EMU Women To 2-0
WASHINGTON, DC --- EMU's soccer women controlled from start to finish Wednesday night, picking up a 2-0 win at Gallaudet to improve to 2-0 on the year. Junior Nora Osei (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) netted both goals for her first scores of 2013.
Eastern Mennonite got on the board in the 10th minute on a corner kick. Morgan Hill (Martinsville, Va./Carlisle) served in a sinking liner to the middle of the box, and Osei slid in to knock in the ball. It was Osei's first goal after scoring nine last season. Hill, who had six assists last fall, picked up her second helper.
It took another 43 minutes for the Royals to get a little breathing room. After the team got five shots on goal over the first six minutes of the second half, Osei ripped a shot across the goal and found the lower right corner for the 2-0 advantage.
The Royals out-shot Gallaudet 35-0 and just missed winning by an even larger margin, as at least three shots bounded out off the cross bar. Osei and Emma Beachy (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) each had four shots on goal.
Keeper Becca Borg (Gig Harbor, Wash./Peninsula) had a quiet shutout as the back line of Naomi Good (Columbia, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite), Erica Detweiler (Hickory, N.C./Fred T. Foard), Asia Malcolm (Richmond, Va./John Randolph Tucker) and Cayla Garner (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) kept the Bison away from the net.
EMU is in Harrisonburg this weekend for their home opener, taking on Ferrum this Saturday at 2:00pm.
