Superior shut out by Loras
Loras 7, Yellowjackets 0
The Yellowjacket women's soccer team closed out the 2013 Advantage Emblem Cup on Saturday afternoon at the Superior Soccer Complex, playing host to Loras College. The Duhawks closed out the 2012 season ranked No. 14 in the nation and opened 2013 with a 1-0 victory over St. Scholastica on Friday.
And for much of the first half the Yellowjackets played right along with the powerhouse Duhawks, but in the end Loras was just too much for the home team and the Yellowjackets fell 7-0.
With the game scoreless, Ailish Rispin scored in the 28th minute to give the Duhawks the 1-0 lead. Jill Leibforth and Kathryn Hermanas then scored 2:43 apart in the closing minutes of the first half to give Loras a 3-0 lead at the break.
Kristina Everding made it 4-0 just 2:38 into the second half. Less than four minutes later Loras made it a 5-0 game, before Rispin tallied her second goal of the game to make it 6-0 less than two minutes later. Katie Truesdale closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal at 56:52 to make the final score 7-0.
Alexandra Paige (Anaheim, Calif./Loara) made her season debut in goal for the Yellowjackets, making 14 saves. Hannah Wilson got the start for Loras and didn't face a shot in the first half. She was credited with the victory in the match. Michelle Vonachen tended goal in the second half and finished with one save.
All-Tournament Team: Two Yellowjackets - Chelsea Cossin (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) and Rachel Wallace (Anaheim, Calif./Magnolia) were named to the 2013 Advantage Emblem Cup All-Tournament Team.
The Yellowjackets (0-2-0, 0-0-0 WIAC) return to action on Saturday, September 7 when they play host to Crown College at the Superior Soccer Complex. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
