Oshkosh downs Yellowjackets
The Yellowjacket women's soccer team has had its struggles over the years with UW-Oshkosh, and the struggles continued on Saturday at Titan Stadium despite a maximum team effort. The Titans were too much for the Yellowjackets as they went onto a 5-0 win before a crowd of 117 at their home field.
The Yellowjackets were without the services of head coach Melissa Hanson in the game, who remained back at home to tend to a family matter.
Kalea Hatlewick (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls) got the start in goal once again for the Yellowjackets, finishing the match with 16 saves on 21 shots. It was the fourth straight start in goal for Hatlewick, whose record for the year now stands at 2-4-0.
Oshkosh opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Nikki Mann scored her first goal of the season on a free kick to make it 1-0. Amanda Baalke made it 2-0, scoring her third of the year off a loose ball in the 14th minute.
Chelsea Kierszh scored a pair of goals in the second half, one in the 52nd minute and the other in the 74th minute, for the Titans. Sandwiched in between Kierszh's goals was first goal of the season for Christina Mauthe, her first of the season, in the 58th minute.
Katelyn Adams (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors), Emily Ball (Duluth, Minn./East), and Rachel Wallace (Anaheim, Calif./Magnolia) had the shots on goal for the Yellowjackets who were outshot 21-3 on the day. Katie Berkopec and Nina Muzi combined for the shutout in goal for the Titans.
The Yellowjackets (3-7-0, 0-2 WIAC) are back on the pitch on Sunday when they play at Ripon College. Game time against the Red Hawks is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
