#11 Lynchburg Comes Back for 2-1 Overtime Victory over Marlins

LYNCHBURG, VA – The 11th-ranked Lynchburg College women's soccer team came back from a 1-0 deficit late in the second half for a stunning 2-1 overtime victory against Virginia Wesleyan College Tuesday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The Hornets had multiple opportunities to take an early lead in the first half, taking seven shots, five of which were turned away by Marlin goalkeeper Megan Gerhart.

Virginia Wesleyan used the momentum of a scoreless first half to collect the first tally of the match. Jasmine Dao sent a ball from 45 feet out over the Lynchburg defense and in for the 1-0 lead 12 minutes into the second half.

The defense of the visiting squad held the majority of the half until Lynchburg capitalized with under two minutes remaining.

That is when Angela Bosco, the senior forward, collected the ball on her foot, turned, and fired from 30 yards out where it ricocheted off the crossbar. Gerhart leapt as high as she could for the shot, but found herself on the turf as the ball bounced twice in front of the goal line before spinning in for the equalizer.

Lynchburg's defense held in the final minute to force overtime for the first time this season. The Hornets were driving up the pitch when VWC was charged with a foul at 95:40. Rachel Sadowski was awarded a shot from 35 yards out and sent it towards the box. Dessi Dupuy headed it over to Morgan Singer who sent it into the top-right corner for her seventh goal of the season and first game-winner of the 2013 campaign.

Tess Frelick made two saves for the Hornets while Gerhart ended with six for Virginia Wesleyan (6-3-2/3-2). Angel Horowitz added a defensive save for the Marlins.

Lynchburg outshot the Marlins 18-4 while holding a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Lynchburg (10-1/4-0) travels to Shenandoah University (6-4-1/4-0-1) Saturday for an ODAC match at 2 p.m.
