Wheaton women's soccer opens NCAA Tournament with a 4-0 win against Webster University
Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton College women's soccer team defeated Webster University on Friday morning in a First Round match of the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament. Wheaton advances to the second round and will host Loras College on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 PM.
Thunder sophomore Ally Witt gave Wheaton its 1-0 lead when she netted a goal off of a Bailey Wysocki crossing pass in the 24th minute. Witt put in a shot that trickled into the net in the 29th minute to give Wheaton a 2-0 lead. The Thunder led the Gorloks 2-0 at halftime, with Wheaton out-shooting Webster 14-1.
Sophomore Annie Wooldridge moved through the Webster defense to score Wheaton's third goal in the 56th minute, thanks to an assist by Witt to give Wheaton a 3-0 lead. Wysocki netted Wheaton's fourth goal in the 75th minute. Wysocki scored on a deflection with a goal that was assisted by freshman Sarah Frey to give Wheaton the 4-0 lead that would become the final score.
Wheaton out-shot the Gorlocks 18-2 in the match. The Thunder attempted five corner kicks and Webster had none. Wheaton goalkeeper Kelsey Graham made one save, with no goals allowed, in 77 minutes of work. Mary Daghfal worked 13 minutes in the net, with one save and no goals allowed. Webster goalkeeper Jessica Davis made seven saves and allowed all four Thunder goals.
