Kate Thomas Named UMass Dartmouth Women’s Soccer Coach
DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Director of Athletics Amanda Van Voorhis announced the appointment of Kate Thomas to serve as the sixth head coach of the Corsairs women's soccer program.
"Kate is a tremendous motivator and recruiter, and her energy is off the charts," Van Voorhis said. "I like the approach and strategy she will implement to get everything out of her student-athletes, while providing a first-class experience. She is grounded in a solid Division III philosophy, goal oriented, and an outstanding communicator. "
"I'm thrilled to be given this opportunity to lead the Corsairs and Athletic Director Amanda Van Voorhis for selecting me," Thomas said. "UMass Dartmouth has been trending in a positive direction with their women's soccer program, and I am hopeful in my aspirations to lead these young ladies to new heights, both on and off the field. I'm inheriting a talented group of women with some dedicated recruiting efforts, our future looks incredibly promising."
Thomas inherits an UMass Dartmouth squad that has made four consecutive appearances in the Little East Conference Championship tournament, advancing to the semifinals in each of the past two seasons. In 2014, the Corsairs posted an 8-10-1 record, including a 3-4 mark against conference opponents.
Prior to her arrival in Dartmouth, Thomas guided the State University of New York at Canton women's soccer program between 2010 and 2012. During her three-year tenure, she led the Roos to a 21-33 record, including an appearance in the 2010 Sunrise Conference tournament finals. A talented recruiter, Thomas mentored two United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Honorable Mention All-Americans, three USCAA Academic All-Americans, two National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Scholar-Athletes, and four All-Sunrise Conference selections.
Thomas also boasts nine years of experience as an assistant coach at the Division III level, including a total of four seasons at Springfield College. She helped the Pride compile a combined record of 59-18-7 (.744), three NCAA Division III tournament appearances and an Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament berth. Thomas began her intercollegiate coaching career at her alma mater, Keuka College, assisting the Wolfpack between 2003 and 2006.
Since 2013, Thomas has served as the assistant general manager for the Brockton Rox, a member of the Future Collegiate Baseball League in Brockton, Mass. She is responsible for management and administration of the baseball front office, stadium, and event complex. Thomas also coordinates all aspects of the player personnel, in addition to promoting the organization through general media relations and multimedia platforms.
