No. 4 Hope Plays To 1-1 Draw With Calvin
Lindsay Kooy launched the ball toward the Calvin College goal from 30 yards out and wished for the best. Hilary Curry came through for her teammate and the fourth-ranked Hope College women's soccer team.
Curry headed in the tying goal in what would be a 1-1 draw with the Knights on Saturday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium. The senior from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Calvin Christian HS) scored in the 65th minute.
"It started with Rylie Dalton in the middle, then Lindsay Kooy got a great ball into the box," Curry said. "I was able to get my head on it. Unfortunately, we couldn't put another one in."
Hope (8-1-2 overall) dropped out of first place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings with a 2-0-1 league record. The Flying Dutch trail Adrian College and Albion College by two points and have yet to play both teams.
Calvin (6-3-2, 1-1-1 MIAA) took a 1-0 lead on a Mackenna Nesky goal in the 53rd minute. Her shot caromed off the lower left post and into the net.
Hope evened the score 11:40 later after pressure enabled the Flying Dutch to maintain possession in the Calvin end.
