Six Unanswered Goals Leads Franklin Past Bluffton on Saturday
BLUFFTON, Ohio – After falling behind early, the Franklin College women's soccer team put on a dominant offensive performance on Saturday (Oct. 6), rolling to a 7-2 win over Bluffton University.
The Grizzlies (5-6-1, 2-1 HCAC) fell behind by a goal in the first three minutes before answering with six consecutive tallies over the next 60 minutes. Senior Maddie Fleet put on a show offensively, scoring four goals to give her a conference-leading 15 tallies on the year.
Bluffton opened the scoring just 2:45 in but Franklin would respond in short order when Jalynn Gorman potted her sixth goal of the year at the 3:47 mark, opening up the flood gates for the Franklin offense. Emma Myers followed with a goal in the seventh minute before Fleet potted her first of the game in the ninth. Lauren Schuld buried her first career goal in the 17th minute, capping a wild start to the match.
The Grizzlies controlled the pace of play for the rest of the half, getting another goal from Fleet in the 41st minute to take a 5-1 lead into the intermission. Fleet added to her total with goals in the 62nd and 69th minutes, respectively, capping off the scoring for both sides.
Fleet finished the night with 13 shot attempts and six shots on goal as Franklin held a 28-7 advantage in shot attempts. Taylor McDaniel assisted on a pair of goals with Schuld and Jackie List adding an assist each. Lexi Short stopped a pair of shots in goal before turning over the cage to Emma Arensdorff, who made her first appearance in net over the final 15:25.
