Cyclones Extend Win Streak with 10-0 Victory Over Notre Dame (Md.)
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Junior Chloe Christopher and freshman Amanda Lebelt each scored a pair of goals to lead the Centenary University women's soccer team to 10-0 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play.
The Cyclones (8-6, 6-0 CSAC) ran their win streak to six straight matches and for the second time this week tied the program record for goals in a single-game with 10. It was the sixth straight shutout for the Cyclones and their eighth of the season.
Prior to the start of the game, Centenary took a moment to honor its six seniors, Jess Petty, Sandy Sosa, Sam Bombardiere, Kristin Karszen, Kara LaPolice and Amanda Benoit.
Karszen got the scoring started for the Cyclones as she converted a penalty kick opportunity at the 10:33 mark.
Lebelt struck for her first of the day as she took a pass from junior Raeanna Cope and made the move to the goal at 17:47. Bombardiere pushed the Cyclone lead to 3-0 as she scored her second of the year off a give and go with Benoit.
Christopher scored her first of the game at 33:12 as she made a long run and beat a defender and the goalie.
Centenary capped the first half scoring with a goal from LeBelt at the 37:03 mark off a pass from LaPolice.
The Cyclones carried that 5-0 advantage into the half as they held a 19-2 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes and took all seven of the game's corner kicks.
Sophomore Tessa Ferentinos had a hand in each of the first two goals scored by the Cyclones in the second half. She scored her second goal of the season and then assisted on Christopher's second score of the day.
Junior Haley Hobbs became the sixth different Cyclone to score in the game as her goal at 60:37 made it an 8-0 game.
Benoit played a role in each of the final two goals on the day. She scored her 11th goal of the season off a penalty kick and a little over a minute later recorded the assist on Petty's first goal of the season. That made the final score 10-0 in favor of the home team.
Freshman Rachel Colt needed to make just two first half saves to record her third shutout of the season. Loren Pardoe made 16 saves in the loss for Notre Dame.
The Cyclone senior class accounted for four goals and four assists on the day. Lebelt, Christopher and Benoit all finished with four points on the day. Lebelt and Christopher each scored a pair of goals while Benoit had a goal and two assists.
Centenary returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 16 when the Cyclones host Stockton at 3 p.m.
